50 years ago Inuyasha was sealed to a tree with a magic arrow by Kikyo. He is a hanyo or half-demon. He is only full human when there is a new moon. His name means Dog Demon. He is in search of the Shikon no Tama so he can become full demon. Although as the story progresses that dosn't seem like such a good idea.
